Chance to gauge progress and make corrections Share results among various teams and solicit feedback Appraise management of progress in case there are difficulties Occasionally need to change course

It is quite common to find that we will divide our team into various sub-teams, or even conduct several different Kaizen events at the same time, with different Team Leaders. In these cases some formal time should be set aside for the various Team or Sub-Team Leaders to meet, in order to compare notes and learn from each other. This is also a good time for the outside consultant to evaluate progress, to see what adjustments may be needed. Occasionally it may be necessary to conduct some additional training.

It does even happen from time to time that the original goals of the Kaizen need to be changed. For example, instead of a cell design activity the team may find that progress is obstructed by a lack of 5S in the area. It may be appropriate to reset the goals for the event, without thinking that it has “failed”. This, however, is rare, especially if the Team Leader has done a good job of preparing for the event ahead of time.
