Have previous experience and success in leadership, but not necessarily management. Experience as a co-leader on previous events Knowledge of Lean and Flow Manufacturing Familiar with the parts and processes of the event area. Some homework may be necessary. Understands the meaning of the words urgent, discipline and teamwork. Not dictatorial in personal style. Understands that you lead from the Kaizen area, not from the office Understands what participative management is. Is friendly but aggressive, firm but fair, can take charge when necessary.

The characteristics listed in the above slide may make it sound like the perfect team leader will be impossible to find! You may be surprised, however, that as your Kaizen efforts become more mature that certain people in your organization will “rise to the top” and begin to assume these roles. It is common to find that once the “Kaizen spirit” begins to take root, some people will be eager to take on these roles and challenges.
