The event coordinator is the highest ranking person involved with the Kaizen event. The event coordinator has the ultimate authority to make decisions concerning the event. This role is similar to what is also called the “Process Champion”. The Event Coordinator may not be working on an hour-by-hour basis with the Kaizen team; that is the role of the Kaizen Team Leader. The Coordinator does, however, check in often with the team to see how things are going, and the Team Leader should feel free to call upon the Coordinator as special issues arise. The event coordinator usually also have budgetary responsibilities, and financial decisions would go through this person.
There may be certain “behind the scenes” actions that are required as well, such as presenting the Kaizen goals to upper management or negotiating with the Finance Department. The Event Coordinator would normally be the right person to handle those responsibilities.
